Connectors & Extensions for Workspace Flows

Developers can build custom Workspace Flows triggers, steps and actions.

Google Apps Script

Write your own trigger and actions with Apps Script. Add workflow configuration to your add-on markup in the Apps Script. Create a Google Workspace add-on using Google Apps Script. Use the add-on schema to add an extension which allows you to define triggers and actions using code. Utilize workflowActions and elements to complete special tasks, calling your own custom code.

Why is this helpful for developers? They can leverage other APIs, services and on-premise systems. Therefore, developers can publish add-ons which use those parameters. So other users can use the marketplace to install your add-on with custom flows too. Use the new extension point for Workspace Flows in add0ns object definition.

Integrate any of your custom models from Vertex. The model garden has 130+ enterprise-ready models that enable several powerful workflows. Train those from Vertex and utilize them in your flows too. Create a custom step, built using an add-on, to call up a trained LLM model. So you can configure a step with Ask an LLM, selecting the model and completing a prompt. Make the most of AI for your workflows using this strategy.

So developers are really looking forward to using the powerful, far-reaching capabilities of Google Workflows to assist users. The use cases permitted by these custom actions and extensibility into Vertex are very exciting. So it's a user friendly app on the surface, plug and play even, but Apps Script developers will find they can leverage existing skills further.

3rd-party integrations

Flows allows third party developers to enable integrations. You can use Google Workspace connectors in two ways: either via Workspace Flows or Gemini Extensions. There is a new Workspace connector platform which features popular third party apps for essential actions to automate your business.

For example you can use Gemini Extensions to pull up Jira issues. Your workflow to completing Jira ticket issues can be easily added to the process. There are options to configure steps creating an issue in Jira with project name, issue type id, summary, description, etc. Then you can add more triggers and actions for the customer response process. Hubspot contact management was also mentioned at the recent developer event in Berlin.

What other connectors are expected with the Google Workflows release?

So you see there are a ton of enterprise level partners lining up to support this AI automation system for Google Workspace. They range from task management and CRM to other internal operations common to companies. Subsequently, use Gemini to tap into these third party data sources to streamline tasks and pull in essential data. Use agents to get more done in Workspace directly without having to go and grab context from adjacent platforms.

This relates the following Google services:

It's also expected that other web hooks and http request connector support come down the line.
