Baby naming ceremonies are not just for families that follow a religion. It is possible to have a secular naming ceremony conducted by a celebrant. 

The baby (or child) is welcomed into the family and given their name. Parents make promises and a baby can have chosen mentors, in a similar way to Godparents in religious baptisms.
