Andy and Annette started The Hub in 2016 and before lockdown it flourished as a brilliant coffee shop, with fantastic cakes and a small, sometimes overlooked grocery store.
Lockdown came on March 23rd, and so started a rapid transformation to a quality grocery store with the addition of take away coffee (and cake).
In the first days, Andy was pivotal in organizing volunteers to not only help in the Hub, take telephone orders, pack the goods and deliver to those who were shielding; but also to arrange a contact point to coordinate help with the collection of prescriptions and any other need that people had.
Annette has worked tirelessly travelling great distances to collect goods from Cash and Carry warehouses. She ensured that the village never ran out of flour or yeast, and sourced all sorts of items that had been requested.
Many local producers are supported, with bakery, butcher, fishmonger and fruit and vegetable producers all benefitting. Also available are local honey, jams, chutneys, cheeses, lemonade and yoghurts. Local artists also have a presence in the Hub.
Annette’s daughter, Violet has been at school throughout all this, and has had to entertain herself, as everyone has been so busy in the shop. She has never complained and showed real maturity in her attitude.
Despite all the changes, physical and managerial, Andy, Annette and all the volunteers ensure that the Hub remains a friendly caring and supportive place. Did we mention the excellent cakes?

Somerset is great for walking. See maps from previous walking festivals.
To view or report on the state of footpaths please visit the excellent interactive web page Explore Somerset - Rights of Way, Open Spaces and Area Management where you can click on a particular stile or gate and report an issue directly to Somerset County Council. The map also shows incidents that have already been reported but which are not yet resolved. SCC informs the PPLOs when a new issue is reported.

Somerset Sight is a local charity which has been supporting sight impaired people across Somerset for over a hundred years and in 2019 won the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.
One of our services is the Volunteer Visiting Service whereby volunteers are matched locally with a sight impaired person for regular visits for company and support, and also helps alleviate their loneliness and isolation.
Volunteers help with a variety of tasks such as reading, correspondence, or making appointments, going out for a drive or just a cup of tea and a chat. Many volunteers get great satisfaction and enjoyment from their voluntary work, many friendships are formed and the people they support very much look forward to their visits. At the current time as face to face visits are not permissable, the service continues with regular phone calls until such time as a visit is allowed again.
For anyone who is sight impaired and would like to know more about our services or if anyone would like to volunteer for the Visiting Service, please contact us on 01823 333818 for further information.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
