First Christian in the Hu Family

Both my parents' families have been Christians for generations. My great-great-grandfather Hu Quan (1798-1865) was a Juren and served as a Jiaoyu (educational officer) in Puning County, Chaozhou. One day, he told his son (our great-grandfather) Hu Qianheng (1830-1889) to return to Foshan to see his family. My great-grandfather passed through Hong Kong and saw someone talking about Jesus on the street. He went in to listen and believed in the Lord after listening. He was the first Christian in his family. After returning home, he was immediately kicked out of the family by his great-great-grandfather; so his descendants did not know anyone in the family at all, and it was not until almost half a century ago that they accidentally recognized relatives from other members of the family.

Hu Qianheng met in the German Baling Church (later known as the Lutheran Church), was pastored and cultivated by German missionaries, and later preached in Guangdong. He could see doctors, traveled throughout the Dongjiang and Beijiang basins, and preached Jesus among the Hakka people. He suffered much persecution while preaching. During one "Jesus Catch" incident, Hu Qianheng and a young preacher were arrested to collect the reward. They locked the two preachers in an inner room and held a feast inside to celebrate. Unexpectedly, halfway through the meal, the young evangelist went out to use the toilet, and immediately rushed back into the room, saying, "Go away! Go away!" It turned out that everyone in the group was drunk and fell to the ground, so the two took the opportunity to escape.

Once, when the Christians were about to be persecuted, my great-grandfather carried my great-grandmother with bound feet on his back to escape on a ship. There were so many experiences like this. Finally, my great-grandfather was taken back to his heavenly home by the Lord in Nanxiong and was buried in Nanxiong.
