PhD Opportunities Available
The Environmental Remediation Laboratory is seeking two highly motivated PhD students to participate in a research project on:
Hybrid Bioremediation and Desalination (HBD) Technology
PhD Position 1: Materials Science and Engineering for HBD Technology: The successful candidate will undertake research focused on the development and application of advanced materials for environmental remediation technologies. Applicants should possess experience or training in materials synthesis, modification, and characterization. Experience in environmental remediation applications, including the use of reactive or barrier materials, and/or an understanding of groundwater chemistry, hydrogeology, and contaminant fate and transport processes, will be considered an asset.
PhD Position 2: Environmental Microbiology for HBD Technology: The successful candidate will undertake research focused on the development and application of microbial cultures for Hybrid Bioremediation and Desalination (HBD) technology targeting soils and groundwater co-contaminated with hydrocarbons and salts. Applicants should possess experience or training in environmental microbiology, microbial culturing, microbial community and biofilm analysis, molecular biology techniques, and bioremediation research. Experience in environmental remediation applications, including bioremediation, and/or an understanding of soil and groundwater chemistry, salinity, and contaminant fate and transport processes will be considered an asset.
