In Spring 1970, The Evolution of Female Personality: History and Prospects were taught at Cornell University. This course marked the beginning of a Women's Studies course taught at an American university. It was also an interdisciplinary course taught across faculty, within and out of Cornell University. The attached PDF is the original syllabus created for the class.
In May 1970, Sheila Tobias, one of the original organizers for the Women's Conference and co-instructor for the Women's Studies class wrote an editorial titled, Sex, Politics, and the New Feminism for Cornell Alumni News. In this editorial, she provided evidence on discrimination against women on the outside and within the academy. Click to scan the editorial beginning at the end of page 19 to 20 to read about the challenges women faced in the academy during this time period.
