In January 1969, a group of female academics from Cornell University decided to organize a feminist conference to test the public's interest in learning about women's issues. It was an unexpected success when over 2,000 attendees attended the conference. The feminist conference eventually led to the creation of the first women's studies at Cornell University the following Spring 1970 semester.
