Women in Olfactory Science (WIOS) is a community dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates the diverse voices of our members. Our mission is to support and advance women in the field of chemosensory science through advocacy, networking, and education. This Code of Conduct is crafted to ensure that all interactions within our community are conducted with respect, dignity, and courtesy.Â
Diversity Statement
WIOS is an international community of researchers devoted to supporting women in chemosensory research. As an organization, WIOS strongly values diversity in its membership. WIOS is therefore committed to creating an equitable environment where human diversity is welcomed and respected. While no list can hope to be comprehensive, we explicitly honor diversity in: age, culture, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, political beliefs, profession, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
Expected Behavior
Be Inclusive: Actively contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
Respect Differences: Engage respectfully with differing viewpoints and experiences.
Maintain Personal Space: Respect the boundaries and personal space of others.
Support Others: Provide help where needed, fostering an environment of safety and trust.
Unacceptable Behavior
Harassment: Any form of harassment including, but not limited to, unwelcome and uninvited attention or repeated unwanted contact, offensive verbal comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion.
Intimidation: Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
Disruption: Disruption of talks or other events in a manner that significantly impedes the proceedings or the enjoyment of the event by other attendees.
Discriminatory Language: sexism, racism, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, or transphobia.
Advocacy of Unacceptable Behavior: Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviors.
Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior
Any group member or associate asked to stop forms of unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately. If someone engages in unacceptable behavior, the organization may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, expulsion from the event with no refund (if applicable), and banning from future events and activities.
Reporting Guidelines
Immediate Concerns: Address any immediate concerns to any event staff, identifiable as community organizers.
Formal Complaints: For less immediate concerns, or to file a formal complaint, please contact [specific email or form link] where a designated officer will handle your case.
Investigation Process: All complaints should be reported using the respective form here. Reporting may be done anonymously or if you would like to be contacted you can leave a contact email address. All reports will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly.
Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to all community spaces, including digital platforms, social media, conferences, workshops, and one-on-one communications related to community activities.
