Natural History of Brandon at Wolf Tree Forest October 11, 2025
Participants explored the record left by oceans, rivers, ice, and Native and European people and how it has affected the forests and fields we see today. We visited a wandering boulder where generations of porcupines have lived, perhaps for centuries and examined rocks, trees, dirt, and vegetation to unravel the story of how Brandon rose from the ocean and travelled half way around the world only to be submerged again in an icewater lake.
Apple Tree Pruning February 22, 2025
Participants joined Vermont Coverts Cooperators Rich Chalmers, and Jonathan Gibson for a hands-on workshop to learn about and try simple techniques for pruning and releasing apple trees. Topics included which tools to use, how much to prune, how and where to make the pruning cuts, and when it should be done. We visited last year's grafted apples and learned about several different grafting techniques as well.
Vermont Coverts is a peer-to-peer community of landowners, professionals and others learning from and supporting each other to enhance wildlife habitats through sound forest management.
They facilitate personal contacts among individual landowners, experts, public agencies and private organizations in the conservation arena.
