What is Webwork?
Webwork is an internet-based system for generating and delivering homework type problems to students. Its goal is to support instruction and text-based assigned homework problems. It has been a part of the UCI lower division math instruction for many years. For an overview of WWK and some of its valuable features, go to: http://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Main_Page
How to use Webwork?
- From on-campus, WWK is available at http://homework.ps.uci.edu/webwork/
- To access Webwork from off campus, you need to use the VPN Client Software (not the We- bVPN) available from http://www.oit.uci.edu/vpn/. Please note that the VPN client soft- ware will need to be installed in order for the Webwork problems to display properly from off campus.
- Students should read the instructions on entering answers into Webwork https://homework.ps.uci.edu/webworkfunctions.html
- as well as the frequently asked questions https://homework.ps.uci.edu/faq.html
- To log-in, students should go to the WWK main page, select their Math 2A/2B class by its five-digit code, and then complete the log-in process using their regular UCInetID (the same one they use to get into EEE).
- Some problems in WWK require many decimal places of accuracy. If you are getting a question wrong, you should retry the work without rounding at any step in the solution process. Webwork will accept answers like “1 − (ln(15))/(ln(2)).” You may have the problem right, but are getting it wrong because you rounded too much.
What else you need to know:
- WWK assignments alone are not sufficient preparation for the exams (which will often have questions that are more theoretical than typical WWK questions). Attempting the suggested homework problems from Stewart and attending lecture are of course essential.
- Start each WWK assignment soon after it is posted. If you have trouble logging in right before the deadline, we will likely not be able to help them in time and your deadline for the assignment will not be extended.
- At the end of the quarter, we will announce the grading policy for Webwork. We will drop a few overall points from the total possible Webwork score to account for the fact that students may sometimes have a right answer and not be able to enter it correctly. For example, if there are 70 total points for WWK for the quarter, we might instead grade out of 66 to allow them a few errors.
