Title: Single-Variable Calculus I

Textbook:
Stewart’s Calculus: Early transcendentals, 8th edition.
There is also a UC Irvine custom edition of the textbook; it is identical (but make sure it is the 8th edition).
Material Covered:
We shall cover most sections of chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4 the textbook.
Reading Assignments:
Reading and doing the examples in the sections of the textbook corresponding to our discussions in lecture will help you learn and understand the course material better. If you work through the relevant examples in the book before you start your homework problems, you will probably solve the homework problems more easily and perform better on your exams than if you do not do the reading.
Discussion Sections:
Attending discussion sections is required. Quizzes will be given in discussion sections.
Quizzes & Midterm:
There will be 9 quizzes and 2 midterms.
Final Exam:
The final exam will be held from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm on Saturday, March 16, (Rooms to be announced)
Grading:
Your final letter grade will be determined by the following components, weighted as indicated.
Webwork 10%
Quizzes 10%
Midterm 1 20%
Midterm 2 20%
Final 40%
