Dry-land training begins in mid-November before the snow falls. Practices are held after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, aligning with the official start of all high school winter sports. They continue through the end of February. Dry-land workouts begin the process of team building and body building. They consist of games, exercises, and drills that teach coordination and strength.
Typically starting in early December, we begin training on the snow at Ski Bowl and Timberline, starting out with basic skills drills and moving on to running practice slalom and giant slalom race courses. As part of the process they also learn many aspects of good skiing including balance, air, carving, and of course, speed.
Training is held Friday night and Saturdays prior to the start of the racing season.
Training continues during the racing season, with additional supplemental training opportunities offered on Sundays in January and February; and a 5 day training camp during the WLHS winter break.
