The support of parents is essential to the success of the team. Obviously, parents need to support their racers' desire to ski, encourage their progress, and work with them to cover the costs and responsibilities of participation. In addition, parents help run the organization. The team is a non-profit ski club run entirely by a group of parent volunteers in coordination with the team's coaches. The team receives no direct support from the public school system although the school lets us hold meetings and other events there. In general, parents have several types of opportunities to support the team:
Arrange athlete travel to and from practices or races. Utilizing and organizing carpools with other team families is highly encouraged!
Volunteer on the mountain during races. Ski skills are not necessarily required, but it helps.
Become part of the team's parent leadership team which organizes team communications, finances and other activities/celebrations.
Utilize TeamSnap for schedule tracking and team communications.
Each family pays a $150 volunteer deposit (to be returned upon fulfilling volunteer commitment).
Our team includes kids who have been on skis since they were three years old and those who have just been skiing for a year or two and have never raced. Skiers don't need to have prior racing experience to participate with the Team. High school skiing in Oregon is dedicated to assisting students develop from intermediate skiers to accomplished racers. Team members should have basic level of skiing skills such that he or she can manage an intermediate hill. To continue to participate on the team, they also need to do the following:
● Complete and return all necessary forms provided for purposes of team membership, liability and use of training and racing facilities.
● Attend school full-time and achieve passing grades in accordance with the state skiing association policies.
● Fulfill economic responsibilities through payment of team registration fees and other required costs.
● Assist with fundraising for the team.
● Attend and participate in dryland training sessions.
● Attend and participate in on-mountain training sessions and races.
