Wishon Elementary was built in 1964, at a time when a dedicated school library was not part of the original design. From what I understand, the library has been relocated three times on campus before finally settling in its current space, a classroom originally intended for kindergarten. Today, our library is located at the front of the school, in the same wing as the main office.

I inherited the library 13 years ago, and since then significant improvements have been made. These include extensive weeding of the collection, the addition of new bookshelves, installation of a mounted TV monitor display, new couch and bench seating, tables, chairs, updated library signage, book‑repair equipment, and of course, a continually refreshed selection of library books. One of the most recent major projects involved relocating and reorganizing our entire book collection. This included fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and the creation of a new section for beginner chapter books. This project required reorganizing more than 7,000 books and implementing completely new shelf and genre signage.
