After reviewing all the module materials and drawing on the experience and expertise of my peers, I’ve gained an understanding of both the strengths of the elementary library program I run as a Library Media Technician and the areas where I can continue to grow. I will say it was a wonderful discovery that the work I’ve done for the past 13 years came naturally.

My strengths are the organization and age of the library collection, creating a warm and welcoming environment for the entirety of the community, promoting resources that are available, and promoting our school library to everyone who is willing to listen both online and in person.

Moving forward, the areas of growth I plan to be proactive about include continuing to diversify our collection, sharing the IMRA coursework with both staff and students. This will involve incorporating short learning opportunities, as well as carving out time during staff meets to share resources, experiences, and library plans. My goal is to create a space where teachers and staff can ask questions and explore without feeling rushed or limited by time. I would also like to share more with families by creating a pamphlet of resources and library experiences to share during school events. 

This course has helped me recognize just how many meaningful and creative possibilities exist within a library program. It has encouraged me to reflect on the ways our work can positively impact students, staff, and families, and it has inspired me to think more intentionally about how the library can continue to grow as a supportive and engaging space for our entire school community.
