Wired Lance does increased damage at mid-range, also known as critical distance. You’ll do 1.2x more damage for spacing properly. But really it feels like the damage is perma-nerfed by 20% unless you do this
But how far is “critical distance”? The reticle can be used to check. When it appears white, it means you are too far or too close to the target.
Absolutely not critical distance. Should just uninstall tbh
When it appears orange, you are in critical distance. Hooray!
I’m in critical distance! LFG
However, the orange reticle is not always accurate because there can be something in the way.
It’s orange, but I can’t hit with critical distance here because I’ll hit Daityl’s back instead of his chest.
Also, your vertical position is completely irrelevant. Jumping on enemies mario-style and smacking downwards doesn’t grant bonus damage.
So in order to know that critical distance is working you can look at the visual effects when an enemy gets hit. When you properly hit enemies at critical distance you will see this horizontal purple line:
Wow what a sick angle.
Now on to the confusing part. The critical distance damage bonus does not apply to every attack and for some it applies without being at mid-range.
These moves don’t ever get the 1.2x bonus from critical distance:
Dash attack
Dive attack
Photon blast
Forward weapon action
These moves ALWAYS get the 1.2x bonus, even at short-range:
Neutral weapon action
Backwards weapon action
Uncharged and charged Hellish Fall
Only the second hit of step attack and step counter
Avenger attacks (after a certain skill is learned)
Certain customized PA's (depends what you selected)
Crossing Feather
That means you do not need to care about spacing for all the moves in either of the two lists above.
