The fun part about Wired Lance combat is that it isn’t completely braindead one-dimensional, unlike most weapons in this unfinished game.
And by that I mean you are going to be paying attention to many different aspects while fighting:
The distance between the target.
The individual timing of your photon arts. Can’t buffer everything.
The timing of the enemy attacks to get a perfect parry.
What type of attack the enemy is using. Wired Lance will respond differently to single-hit, lingering, and multi-hit attacks.
HP and Restasigne management in higher end challenges.
That all sounds really daunting but don’t be scared! If you were diligent enough to look up a guide then I have faith that you’ll be capable of doing all the above with some practice.
Below you will find some nice combos and rotations that will up your gameplay and put you on track to be a FaZe MLG xXxPro WLxXx gamer.
Repeated 3 hit Turbulent Trains. It's the least committal way to deal sufficient damage while waiting for counter opportunities. You need to repeat this with good timing to keep damage up. You’re not going to get it perfectly every time because we’re human (irl, at least) but paying attention will make a big difference compared to doing it lazy.
3 hit TT repeats -> See enemy attack -> Avenger
You would use this over Cutting Layer because most of TT’s damage is closer to the beginning of the skill. Remember, hit 1 is stronger than 2, 3, and 4. Often, you’re going to be dropping this early because a counter opportunity will arise and you’ll adjust to capitalize on that instead.
As a quick reminder, you can dodge after the first hit completes and you’re free act with anything after the second hit completes.
Repeated TT3's will also be the fastest way to fill the Crossing Feather gauge and it will be your strongest DPS during enemy downs ASSUMING you do not have an avenger lasso available. The PP burn is going to be significant (-20 per cast) but Crossing Feather will help to alleviate this.
3 hit TT repeats -> Restore PP with Crossing Feather -> 3 hit TT repeats
Switch to this version of the TT3 combo when your PP drops below 40 and you don't have Crossing Feather ready.
3 hit TT repeats -> Normal 3-> Normal 4
The standard play to use off of a single hit counter opportunity. You can substitute the neutral WA for a back WA to output slightly more damage, at the cost of your positioning. For faster and more aggressive bosses you can opt to skip the WA part entirely to catch the next parry with a new Cutting Layer.
See enemy attack -> Parry with avenger Cutting Layer-> Neutral WA
To do this combo, the boss needs to get downed by an avenger photon art. There isn’t a realistic way to know exactly when the boss will get downed so you will be adjusting to this route on reaction. It is the highest DPS you can put forth during a down and also restores all or nearly all of your PP.
Avenger -> See yellow physical down effect -> Side WA
You can eliminate the need to do this on reaction when using Wired Lance as a sub weapon. Store an avenger, then play Sword/Partisan, then pull out the Wired Lance and do this when you get a down.
A tactic that can make use of the time when there’s nothing to hit. It will give you a headstart in a way. Helpful between bosses in purple triggers, Falz whenever he flies off the map, and other certain enemy transitions.
This is strictly WORSE than overcharging Twisting Zapper. If you are carrying a Sword as well, do that instead.
Instant Hellish Fall will give you atomic bomb tier damage and makes Wired Lance look busted out the wazoo… Until you discover that there aren’t a whole lot of places where you can do it.
But when you can it's cracked
Getting hit twice while charging Hellish fall will skip the atrocious 5 second charge and release it immediately with a 1.5x damage boost. Since this is so absurdly powerful you really want to use it when it’s possible.
The right situations for Instant Hellish Fall are rare, but there are more than you’re thinking of. Be on the look out for enemy attacks that are multi-hits and when enemies tend to attack in rapid succession!
Some things don't even look like multi-hits when they are
Looking at a target from far away and using Crossing Feather will speed you straight over to the target, saving you a bunch of travel time. It also puts you at perfect spacing for critical distance.
Zooooom
Wired Lance’s PSE Burst and mobbing routine. I know I said this weapon was going to have some depth but this is an exception. Vane combos are low effort and don’t need any strict timing or practice so feel free to faceroll the controller or keyboard. You’re probably hitting more enemies than you can see anyways.
