We are a club at UBC dedicated to creating a welcoming community for women+ in the PHAS department.
The WiPA club aims to connect women+ and allies in the PHAS department, and to create a supportive, inclusive community. As women+ in physics/astronomy who have greatly benefited from the support of our friendship, we are committed to cultivating an environment for others to find this as well.
Our goal is to create a safe space where individuals can feel supported, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. Through this club we hope to empower women+ to thrive academically, professionally, and personally to ensure they feel supported throughout their academic journey at UBC.
WiPA was founded by two passionate UBC students, Abilene and Marusia, who wanted to create a supportive and inclusive community within the PHAS department. Their vision created a space where women and gender minorities in physics and astronomy can connect, support one another, and build lasting friendships.
Today, WiPA is led by Co-Presidents Sam and Sierra, alongside a dedicated executive team committed to continuing and growing that vision. Through mentorship, social events, and professional development, we strive to create a welcoming community where every student feels supported, empowered, and connected!
