Gray Gables

C. 1899

Perhaps the most recognized in Winton is Gray Gables (400 North Main Street), constructed by James S. Mitchell in 1899. Listed in the National Register in 1982, the two-and-a-half-story house has a distinctive tower on its north corner; a highly decorative wrap-around porch with turned posts, balusters, and spindle frieze; a recessed double-leaf entrance marked by a projecting gable on the porch; and a combination of weatherboard and wood shingle cladding.
