Join the quest for great teaching!
The retreat begins with a Welcome Dinner at 6 PM on Thursday and ends at 11 AM on Saturday.
Bryce Canyon is a sparkling wonderland of contrasts in wintertime.
This retreat is for college and university faculty, whether full-time or part-time. It is based on the philosophy that "properly facilitated shoptalk" is one of the highest forms of professional development. No individual teaching "expert" can match the collective knowledge, experience, wisdom, creativity, and genius of any group of teachers actively involved in their profession. The participants are the "experts" at the retreat.
You will meet with other teachers from different disciplines and institutions, engage in highly interactive discussions, share successful teaching strategies and innovations, seek solutions to your own teaching problems and challenges, and much more (see the instructions for Prior Preparation about what to bring to the retreat).
Retreat facilitators will provide structure and guidelines to help ensure our meeting time is positive and productive, but YOU and the other participants will decide which issues are most important and relevant to discuss. Together, we will pursue a quest for the ideal of the "great teacher." The Red Rock Great Teaching Retreat utilizes the seminar model of the National Great Teachers Movement, founded in 1969 by David Gottshall. This "grassroots" movement has continued for over 50 years with workshops, retreats, and seminars across the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world. Why? Because it works! It creates a learning environment of purposeful simplicity with a powerful focus on seeking to understand what "great teachers" DO.
At the Red Rock Great Teaching Retreat, we will enjoy great food, great conversation, and great professional learning experiences in one of the most awe-inspiring and spectacular places on Earth. You may decide to extend your stay over the weekend so you can spend more time in the area, exploring Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Kodachrome Basin State Park, and other scenic locations not far from Ruby's Inn.
"Thor's Hammer" is one of Bryce Canyon's most iconic "hoodoos" (i.e., tall, thin columns or spires of weathered rock).
YOU are invited to participate in this professionally enriching and energizing experience!
