Groundhog’s day!
Martin Guerrero
On February 2nd, it was the 2024 Groundhog’s Day. If you didn’t know what happened well here it is. Groundhog’s day happened on February 2nd on 7:25 AM. It is in Gobbler's Knob in western Pennsylvania.
FUN FACT: did you know that the groundhog’s name is Phil.
Anyway, Phil did not see his shadow this year. So that mean we are going to have an early spring. Phil does not see his shadow for the 21st time in all. The last time Phil did not see his shadow was all the way back I 2020. That is like 4 years ago, and he only didn’t see it 21 times. Mind blowing right, yeah I know, anyway now the question is. What is going to happen next year?
PRESIDENTS DAY HISTORY
Isaac Bell
Can you believe Presidents Day is soon? What, you don’t know what that is? Okay, I'll tell you. Presidents' Day was created by state senator Stephen Dorsey in the late 1870’s as he wanted a holiday on George Washingtons birthday. After a few years, the bill finally got signed into law by President Ruford B. Hayes. Strangely Though, it was only a holiday in the District of Columbia (Currently Known as Washington D.C) and wasn’t an official country wide holiday until 1875. The Holiday was originally hosted on February 22nd the first president's birthday.
In the Late 1960s, there was a push by Illinois Senator McClory for a bill called the uniform Monday holiday act. This act was made to push moving several holidays from specific dates to predetermined Mondays, while some politicians pushed back against the idea, saying it would cheapen the holidays, the act was ratified into law in 1971. This also changed the dates of Columbus Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day to Mondays. (Veterans was changed back to November 11th after widespread criticism)
So that was how Presidents' Day was created, thanks for reading my article, and until next time, im out.
