COMMUNITY Coach

.” One of the great things about seeing youth sports as “a dress rehearsal for life” is that we can use whatever happens in sports as material to build people of character who are ready for what life will toss their way.

Kia Ora Katou and Welcome!

I would firstly like to introduce myself. My name is Kath Dobson and I work for Waikato Institute for Leadership & Sports Studies (WILSS) . At WILSS we are all about Leadership and Volunteerism development in the community. I will be guiding you along your Coaching Journey.

First and foremost I would like to congratulate you on putting your hand up to coach. In our community of coaches some of you will come with a kete fill of many pearls of wisdom from many years of coaching while for some this might be your very first step into what coaching looks like. I am very hopeful there will be a whole lot of learning for all of us in whatever capacity you arrive at and that together we can help guide and support each other to ultimately lead, develop and connect our Tamariki.

So how does this look.....

I have created a series of informative material under four key areas for coaches to read and digest : The Coach, Knowing My Athletes, The Support Team and the Mana Enhanced Coach . I am then hopeful that a 'community of coaches' will come together at an assigned time for a meet and greet and sharing session on what they have discovered, enjoyed and intend using in their coaching sessions. This will be conducted via zoom sessions as required by the coaches. Finally I and/or my colleagues would come to your community to perform a practical session based around much of the information presented.

I am very excited about this blended method of sharing the "Art of Coaching" with you. It allows you to work at your own pace , at the time you choose and the environment you like the most.
