During your eye exam for glaucoma, your eye doctor will:
Check your vision
Check your eye pressure
Test your visual field
Take a picture of your optic nerve with a camera or with an OCT machine (optical coherence tomography)
Eye Pressure Measurement
This means the doctor will measure your eye pressure.
Dilated Eye Exam
This means the doctor will examine the nerve in the back of your eye to see any changes in its color or shape. This helps your doctor measure the health of your optic nerve.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
This means that the doctor will use a machine to look at different layers of the back of your eye. The OCT machine is not painful and uses light to visualize different layers of your eye. The doctor will check the health of your optic nerve with this test.
Visual Acuity
The doctor will show you a chart with letters in different sizes. Then, you will be asked how well you can see the letters.
Fundus Photography
The doctor will use a normal camera to take a photo from back of your eye. This will help your doctor to better examine your eye.
Visual Field Testing
This is a test to check your field of vision.
Gonioscopy
The doctor will look at the front of your eye and examines its health.
