Many individuals are under the assumption that the practice of brand management is a simple self-playing tool. The truth is, many companies out there have suffered the consequences of mistakes that are quite common in brand management. These are highly avoidable, if people were only more aware of them. William Seegmiller shares some of them in today’s blog.
Mistake 1: Generic Branding
Sometimes companies attempt to save money and cut on spending to a fault. Many brands have been created out of generic material, such as free images that can be downloaded online. Often, this has resulted in a brand that doesn’t stand out, which defeats the purpose of building a unique image that represents the company or product. This is especially disadvantageous for budding startups which are trying to penetrate the market.
Mistake 2: Inconsistency
Brand management is all about making a very successful identity which is easy to retain in the minds of consumers. However, some companies have failed at this because they are quite inconsistent with the way they build their image. Without a common theme in your brand, people will not relate well to your brand and you will easily be forgotten. Be careful not to confuse your market about who you are.
Mistake 3: Not using social media
The space that social media holds online is a huge universe of opportunity to known and heard. Today, it is a well-accepted fact that any company which does not participate in social media is missing out on such an opportunity. William Seegmiller further adds that if your brand is not present in social media, you shouldn’t be expecting to have much success in your initiative. The social media space is something that is here to stay for life.
