Exhibit 12: Motion

Revision

  • I cleaned up the masking around the biker and did some spot removal on his face.

  • I removed the texture pattern over the image to increase the image vibrancy

  • I changed the color of the Lotoja logo to match the blue in the biker's uniform

Background

  • My brother-in-law recently competed in the LoToJa bike race from Logan, UT to Jackson Hole, WY. While that's been fresh in my mind, I was inspired by a bike race poster that used different colored bicyclists.I've also been wanting to create a design using mostly photo components and some way to use background masking techniques in Photoshop.I wanted to capture the intensity of the marathon bike race as well as the scenery along the way. The imposing mountains behind a grassy field adequately sum up both of these.

Process

  • I began with the photo of the bicyclist, which was originally in a photo with three other bicyclists. I removed him from the background and did the same for the mountain. The bright colors from the mountain were too distracting though so I decided to turn it into a black and white image to give more emphasis on the bicyclist. Originally, I tried placing the text along the bottom or middle but I found within the stripe fit the design the best. I picked its color from the bicyclist's sleeve.
