Join me as we visit a caregiver in the home of one of her patients and explore how her sometimes marginalized culture can serve as a lesson for others.
The house is filled with love and laughter. Everyone shares. But, this is not a home with a typical family. Instead, it is filled by a community of people who came together to support a man with ALS. Sure, in the house, you might find typical family members. A wife. Two kids. Three grandkids. But, there will also be caregivers, friends from near and far, and extended family hoping to help alleviate some of his worries by pitching in and shortening his ever-growing list of punch list items. He’s an independent man who must rely on others for his care. People flock to help. That’s just the man he is and the community we have formed. And, this community reaches far beyond this one house. We walk. We raise money. We spread awareness.
