Clarinet

The clarinet is a versatile and very important woodwind instrument in the 6th grade band. It is a single reed instrument that reads the treble clef. The clarinet has a wide range of low and high note that allows it to play the melody and non-melody. We normally have between 25 - 30 students chosen to the play the clarinet in our 6th grade Wiley band! The majority of our clarinet players take private lessons although it is not required for this instrument. The clarinet has some resistance because of the reed you blow against. The clarinet belongs to a large family that ranges from small to very large instruments! One of the larger and lower sounding clarinet is called the Bass Clarinet and you could play that in 7th and 8th grade. Listen to the 3 short videos below to see if the clarinet could be one of your top picks for band next year!
