Common Myths
There are some common misconceptions about PTSA membership. These misunderstandings often discourage parents, family members, and community members from joining an organization that directly supports our students.
“Only moms and teachers need to join PTSA.”
A strong and vibrant PTSA thrives with the support of everyone—moms and dads, step-parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, teachers and school staff, students, community members, and business leaders. Anyone who cares about the well-being of children belongs in the PTSA. It’s essential that we all have a voice in the decision-making processes—whether in our schools or in government—that shape the laws and policies impacting our kids.
“Joining PTSA means I have to volunteer or go to meetings.”
You don’t have to volunteer or attend meetings to be a PTSA member! Your membership alone makes a difference. Our PTSA values every member—whether or not you have time to volunteer—because each membership strengthens our voice and increases our ability to advocate for all children.
“PTSA membership never expires – I only have to join once.”
Each new school year begins a new PTSA membership year. Membership cards are valid for one school year and remain active until the end of that year. PTSA membership is open to parents, grandparents, students, teachers, school staff at Wilcox Elementary, and all community members. Everyone is welcome—and encouraged—to join!
“I don’t have the time to join PTSA.”
We understand your time is valuable—but it’s your support for children that truly counts. Even if you’re unable to volunteer your time, becoming a PTSA member and offering financial support shows our students that you care. Your membership helps us create programs and activities that benefit not only your child, but all children. Together, we can make a meaningful difference!
"The PTSA has all the help they need."
Our PTSA always needs and wants volunteers! If you choose to volunteer, you decide your time commitment.
