Doro Community Primary School was started in 2023 by the Doro village community. There are 220 children at the school being taught by 3 volunteers with the occasional additional volunteer.
Teaching currently occurs about 3 times a week due to the intermittent availability of volunteers as volunteers have to prioritise paid work in order to earn money to provide for their families.
Subjects taught at the school are Mathematics, English, Science and Maban language (the local language).
Teachers' salary- Providing a regular salary to volunteer teachers will enable them to make teaching the children their main source of income. This would mean consistent teaching for the children.
Food- There is currently food scarcity in Doro. Providing school launch will help children learn better, encourage them to attend school, and is beneficial for their general wellbeing.
Sanitation- The school currently has no hygienic toilet. A shallow hole has been dug in the ground. This is surrounded by plastic sheets held by wooden poles for privacy.
Water- The school currently has no running water.
Sustainability- We are hoping to set up a poultry project as a starting point to help provide income for the running of the school. The aim is to work towards bigger community projects in order to make the school self-sustaining without outside aid over time.
Other needs- Stationery, school renovation, teacher training.
