A: Competition occurs in 2 main circuits. Local circuit competition includes tournaments in Austin or in surrounding areas, and doing well at these tournaments can qualify to the state tournament. National circuit competitions are held accross the country, and high placements at these tournaments qualify competitors to the Tournament of Champions.

A: Westlake offers World Schools Debate (WSD), Public Forum (PF), Lincoln Douglas (LD), and Policy (CX). World Schools debate has teams of 3 to 5 people, and debates a mix of prepared and impromptu topics. PF has teams of 2 people, and teams compete over monthly and bimonthly topics. LD is a single person event, where competitors debate bimonthly topics, focusing more on values and ethics. Policy debate has teams of 2 people, who compete over a yearly topic. CX and LD are generally more technical, PF has a mix of technical debating and persuasion, and WSD focuses mainly on persuasion and speaking.
