Inside a Self-Funded Film and Music Universe Built Outside the Industry System
Soul artist, filmmaker, and independent media creator Gina Sedman has completed an unprecedented creative output across film, music, and publishing — producing a feature film, a 12-song album, and a companion book in just four months, entirely independently and without any industry backing.
Since relocating to the UK in 2023, Sedman has independently released four full-length albums within 18 months and expanded her creative practice into film and literature. Her latest project, Who’s Clyde, represents a fully self-contained creative universe spanning a feature film, original soundtrack album, and companion book — all written, produced, and developed without a record label, external funding, promoter, booking agent, or production company.
All work is released through her independent label and publishing company Gico Music, a fully family-run operation.
The Who’s Clyde album is scheduled for release on 1 June 2026, followed by the feature film premiere on 7 June 2026 at The Reading Biscuit Factory in Reading, UK. The release will be accompanied by a red carpet screening and public premiere event.
The companion Who’s Clyde book will also be released alongside the film and album, expanding the narrative world and offering additional depth to the characters and story universe.
Who’s Clyde is a family-friendly comedy-mystery set in a stylised 1970s-inspired world blending soul music, humour, and narrative storytelling. The story follows a neighbourhood legend known only as Clyde — a mysterious figure whose presence sparks rumours, strange encounters, and escalating events, drawing two detectives into a chaotic investigation filled with eccentric characters and unexpected twists.
The film features a unique casting approach, blending professional screen actors with first-time performers drawn from the UK soul radio and DJ community, including presenters from Mi-Soul Radio, Diverse FM, Soul Groove Radio, and Starpoint Radio. This creates a rare crossover between broadcast radio culture and on-screen performance.
The project also includes established UK and international actors such as Mark Springer (Royal National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Shadow & Bone – Netflix, Doctor Who – BBC, EastEnders – BBC, Holby City – BBC), Theo St. Claire (Foundation – Apple TV+, Guerrilla – Showtime/Sky Atlantic, BBC dramas including Doctors and New Blood), alongside performers including Rian Pearl and Akin Shenbanjo Jr.
Gina Sedman’s work has received consistent UK national radio support, including a live performance on BBC Radio London’s Robert Elms Show, multiple-month playlist support from Jazz FM, and ongoing championing from Mi-Soul Radio DJs including Greg Edwards, Calvin Francis, and Ronnie Herel.
Internationally, she has been recognised in California’s Coachella Valley as one of the region’s first Black female filmmakers and named among the Top 12 Most Inspirational and Influential People of the Coachella Valley for her work in independent film and creative entrepreneurship.
Alongside her creative output, Sedman also operates multiple independent media platforms including The Indie Post Magazine (featuring over 300 interviews), Indie Soul Radio, and NDME TV.
