Prospective Families

Students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade living in Manor Park and Lamond may enroll at Whittier Elementary School at any time as their in-bound school. (See DCPS's boundary locator to confirm your in-bound schools.)

Prekindergarten students and those living outside the boundaries must apply through the My School DC lottery. Learn more about that process here.

Are you a prospective parent looking to learn more about Whittier? We will announce our open house dates soon. Open houses are a great opportunity to learn about the curriculum; meet students, staff, and parents; visit classrooms; and ask questions. If you would like to speak with a current Whittier parent about their experience, please email us at jgwhittierpta@gmail.com.

Uniforms are burgundy polo shirts or sweaters with khaki bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts, jumpers). White tops are also acceptable. They are not specialty orders; common stores are Old Navy, Children's Place, Amazon, etc. On Fridays, students may wear Whittier t-shirts; shirts will be available for sale for $10 at orientations, the first day of school, Back to School Night, and PTO meetings and events.

For school year 2021-22, we will offer several options for care before and after the school day:

  • Beforecare with Whittier staff: Enrichment activities from 7 to 8 am. Free, with donations requested for the student transportation fund.

  • Aftercare with DC Public Schools Out of School Time Programs (Whittier staff): Homework support, games, and activities from 3:15 to 6 pm. This program is free for all participants Visit dcps.dc.gov/afterschool for more info and registration.

Many additional activities like Extended Day, College Mentors, Cub Scouts, clubs, and sports are also available at low to no cost.

NOTE: Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, we phased out our middle school grades. Students entering 6th through 8th grades in 2021 will attend Ida B Wells Middle School, across the street from Whittier and adjacent to Coolidge High School.
