About the Bands

The WY Band program has a tradition of excellence and consists of nearly 200 students enrolled in four curricular concert bands and one curricular jazz ensemble with three jazz combos. 

Wind Ensemble members earn consistent high rankings at numerous festivals and competitions and have performed on the stage of Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.  Students are encouraged to study privately and to participate in chamber music, solo & ensemble festivals, Chicago area music groups, musical pit orchestra, as well as ILMEA All-District and All-State groups. 

The Whitney Young Band program is fully committed to teaching students of all levels and values their experience. In addition to the top Wind Ensemble, students are also exposed to a wide variety of music in the Symphonic Band and Concert Band.
