Endlich bekommt der Fotograf Leon seine grosse Chance die angesehene Galeristin Susan Hoff ist zwar uberzeugt von seinem Talent, aber auch der Meinung seinen Arbeiten fehle noch der letzte Schliff. So beauftragt sie Leon, tief in die Dunkelheit New Yorks einzutauchen und ihre wahre Seele abzulichten. Leon begibt sich nun auf nachtliche Streifzuge um unverfalschte Eindrucke zu bekommen und seinen Fotos die notige Authentizitat zu verleihen. Da diese Ausfluge nicht ungefahrlich sind und Leon mit urbaner Kriminalitat konfrontiert wird, hat dessen Freundin Maya zunehmend Angst ihm konne etwas passieren. Die Sorge ist nicht unbegrundet denn Leon wird immer obsessiver und verfolgt eine ihm verdachtige Person ein schweigsamer Hune, der tagsuber als Schlachter arbeitet und abends in wenig besetzten U-Bahn-Abteilen verschwindet. Besteht eine Verbindung zwischen dem mysteriosen Metzger und den Menschen, die regelmassig in der U-Bahn verschwinden?
