Our swim team only functions thanks to the volunteer support of our families. We collect a $50.00 volunteer fee at the beginning of the summer season. It is our hope that this fee encourages families to do their part to ensure that all meets run smoothly. Please do your part to make this a successful season.
Jobs: Each family has to do 4 volunteer jobs at either home or away meets. In addition, each family will be required to bring 2 food donations (one swimmer) or 3 food donations (multiple swimmers) to any of the home swim meets.
We use Sign-Up Genius which allows families to choose their jobs at their convenience. Sign-Up Genius will provide you with 2 reminders via email about your selections. You do not need to have an account to use Sign-Up Genius, but it does make things easier on your end if you do.
Timers: (9) Meet timers are in charge of timing and recording accurate times for the swimmers in the lane they are assigned to time. There are 3 timers per lane. Timers in each lane will not all be from the same team. Stop watches will be provided by Whitehall Waves for both home and away meets. Timers must attend a meeting in the starter's area about 10 minutes before the meet begins - this is where lanes will be assigned, timers will be handed out, and reminders given.
Back Up Timers: (1) Back up timers are in charge of timing each event. They are not assigned a lane, but they may be needed should anyone's timer not work as it should during the middle of an event. The timer will yell, "Back up timer!" and the back up timer will approach the lane to get an accurate end time for that swimmer.
Runner: (2 home) The runner is in charge of collecting and then running the timers' sheets back to the results table. They also collect any disqualification slips from the Stroke and Turn Judges and the Starter.
Stroke and Turn Judge: (2) Stroke and Turn Judges are parents who are certified officials for swimming. They are trained on proper strokes as well as the rules surrounding starts, turns, and multiple swimmer events. They are required to disqualify swimmers for improper stokes or broken rules. Stroke, Turn, and Starter instruction is offered by different teams each year. Certification last for two years.
Starter: (1 home) Starters are parents who are certified officials for swimming. Their main job is starting each event. One main goal is to keep the swim meet moving along. They also officiate the meet just like the Stroke and Turn Judges.
Announcer: (1 home) The announcer is in charge of starting the meet on time with the National Anthem and then announcing each event including the swimmers involved. It is important to try to excite the crowd and have fun when doing this job.
Snack Stand Worker: (3-4 home) Snack Stand Workers serve food and wait on customers at our outdoor snack stands during the swim meet. Workers need to be able to make change and safely handle food. There are two different shifts.
Ribbons: (1 home) This volunteer is in charge of cutting ribbons, placing pre-printed stickers on the back, sorting them by team, and filing the Wave's swimmers ribbons into their file box. They sit by the results table.
Results Table: (1 away) This volunteer reads the times from the lane sheets to the meet manager from the other team, who puts them into the computer to calculate results. Swimmers are not permitted in the results area.
Results Table (1 home) This volunteer must be trained in Meet Manager/Team Manager and be able to work the computer for the results of the meet. Swimmers are not permitted in the results area.
