In week 1, we looked at the features of owls and and answered the question What animals come out a night?
In week 2, we answered the question 'Which animals are nocturnal' by investigating which other animals like to come out at night.
In week 3, we enjoyed exploring the celebration Bonfire Night and answered the question 'How is Bonfire Night Celebrated?'
Communication and Language: Listening, Attention and Understanding
I can listen to others one to one or in small groups when conversation interests them. (30-50)
I can maintain attention and sit quietly during an appropriate activity. (40-60+)
I can listen attentively and respond to what I hear with relevant questions, comments and actions during whole class discussions and small group interactions (ELG)
I can ask clear questions relating to the discussion being held (Y1)
The children have worked so hard in this case study and all of the adults are incredibly proud of how the children have listened, maintained attention, asked questions to develop their learning further. There were opportunities to work collaboratively but also times when it was requited to have quiet time and work independently. The children across EYFS thoroughly enjoyed learning about about different nocturnal animals and showed real care and concern for living creatures when discussing how we can look after hedgehogs as the nights draw in. Exploring Bonfire Night was great fun and the children loved sharing their experiences of Bonfire Night with their families as well are creating firework themes art work.
The children have looked even more closely at the four seasons in their play as we developed our seasonal calendar product. The children used the seasons as their basis for talk and to develop communication skills in their play.
Here are the children continuing their learning in nursery working collaboratively in week 2 to draw and mark make their ideas about nocturnal animals.
Here are the children enjoying mark making and developing their ideas to answer the question 'How is Bonfire Night celebrated?'
