The Whale-Sized Toy Chest is a federally registered, student-led non-profit organization formerly based in Toronto and now based in Hamilton (Canada), with the goal of providing toys, craft supplies, books, and any other materials that might spread joy to children in hospitals, special education centres, and youth homeless shelters. These facilities are often in need of donations and frequently can’t accept used items, which greatly limits the number of donations they receive. The Whale-Sized Toy Chest was created to address this need by providing these organizations with brand new toys and fun supplies that can help brighten children’s days during these difficult and lonely times.
We are currently partnered with The Hospital For Sick Children to supply their young patients with art supplies, stickers, LEGO sets, and more!
We're partnered with the Children's Radiation Program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to support their incredible young cancer warriors!
We're partnered with several of the pediatrics units at Markham Stouffville Hospital, also known as Oak Valley Health, to support the young patients that they serve!
We work with Child Life Specialists at Michael Garron Hospital to provide them with toys, books, and craft supplies that replenish their treasure chests and help support the youth that they serve!
We work with the Pediatrics Department at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital to provide them with books, stickers, and art/craft supplies to support their young patients!
We're partnered with The Autism Centre of Toronto (TACT) to give them donations (toy pods) that help them provide services to children with autism spectrum disorder!
We're partnered with Autism in Mind to provide them with toys and craft supplies that support their programming for children with autism spectrum disorder!
We're partnered with Surrey Place to provide toys for youth with developmental disabilities that families can take home!
We're partnered with Friends of Ruby, a one-of-a-kind transitional house for 2SLGBTQIA youth, to provide care packages (care pods) for the youth that they serve!
We're partnered with The 519, a charity that provides programs and services and a free, non-judgemental space for 2SLGBTQIA youth!
We deliver donations of food to the Markham Food Bank which they then distribute to their clients!
Through our Courage Pods program, family members of child cancer fighters all over Canada and the United States are welcome to request a personalized Courage Pod for their loved one! Through this program, we hope to be able to help children find joy, hope, and courage in difficult times. Each Courage Pod contains $100 to $200 worth of items including toys/games, books, arts and crafts supplies, cozy hats and blankets, snacks, and more!
In addition to our work donating toy pods to our partnered organizations, we also organize a number of fundraisers in collaboration with various businesses - in fact, we have a few that are currently ongoing, which you are welcome to check out! The money raised via these fundraisers is used to contribute monetarily to the organizations with which we are partnered, as well as to fund The Whale-Sized Toy Chest's operations!
