The Whale-Sized Toy Chest is a federally registered, student-led non-profit organization formerly based in Toronto and now based in Hamilton (Canada), with the goal of providing toys, craft supplies, books, and any other materials that might spread joy to children in hospitals, special education centres, and youth homeless shelters. These facilities are often in need of donations and frequently can’t accept used items, which greatly limits the number of donations they receive. The Whale-Sized Toy Chest was created to address this need by providing these organizations with brand new toys and fun supplies that can help brighten children’s days during these difficult and lonely times.
The Whale-Sized Toy Chest began in February 2021 as a one-person project and has since become a registered non-profit organization with 10 team members, partnerships with 11 donation sites across the GTA, and partnerships with over 115 donors all around the world! More recently, through our Courage Pods program, we are working to brighten the days of child cancer fighters not only in Canada, but in the United States as well!
