The WGH Raider Marching Band is the face of the WGH Raider Band Program. Students in grades 9-12 participate in rehearsals throughout July and August to prepare for a busy schedule of Band Nights, Football Games, Parades, and more. The marching band has a long standing tradition of excellence dating back to when two separate high schools existed in the city and have also performed in numerous national parades including the NYC Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C., National Cherry Blossom Parade, Chicago's St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Apple Blossom Festival Parade in Winchester, VA and many more.
Marching Band is a co-curricular class, and students do receive a grade for their participation. Because of this, it is important that they attend all summer band rehearsals. Successful completion of two years of marching band will earn students a P.E. waiver, fulfilling the physical education requirement for graduation.
Auditions are an integral part of the WGH Raider Band program. Each student enrolled in a band course will audition in the fall for seating within their respective section and again in the spring for placement within the next year's bands. Auditions take place in class during the school day and are part of the students' playing grades.
The WGH Raider Marching Band does not hold auditions for woodwind or brass players. Current Warren City School District Middle School Band Members enroll in the high school marching band course while creating their freshmen schedule in the spring of their eighth grade year. For any student new to the district, an interview with the band directors is required and can be scheduled through a guidance counselor upon enrollment.
Students wishing to be on the drumline, majorette line, or flagline as well as those students wishing to be drum majors must participate in the annual spring tryouts. Click the buttons below for more information about dates and requirements for each.
