1/29/26:  Darla Luzum had total knee replacement surgery last week

1/28/26:  Karen Owens was shoveling snow at her sister’s in Massachusetts when she broke her wrist. She will have surgery there as soon as possible. Will update if she provides an address for cards.

1/25/26:   We received word of the passing of Karen Smith earlier this week. Her obituary is listed on the Sisco Funeral Chapel website, www.siscofuneral.com   Her service will be on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Church in Rogers, address is 905 South 13th Street, Rogers, AR 72758.  Cards may be sent to her husband, Charles Smith at 1115 Lexington Circle, Springdale, AR  72762. 

Per Linda Canclini:  A little bit about Karen that is not in the obituary, she has been part of the golfing scene in NW Arkansas since the mid 2000's.  She and various partners enjoyed playing in many of the 2-lady events across the area. She became of representative for Paradise Valley in the NWAWGA, Northwest Arkansas Women's Golf Association, in 2007.  In the first year she was part of that organization, she was responsible for the gathering of recipes and arranging for the printing of a cookbook, Recipes from the 19th Hole, filled with delicious recipes submitted by the women golfers of our area.  The sales of that cookbook raised almost $2800 for the First Tee of NWA and the First Tee of Fort Smith.  Karen eventually served a vice-president of the NWAWGA in 2008 and advanced to President in 2010, serving 2 year terms.  She was asked to be vice-president again in 2020 and also shared the vp role in 2022.  You might have met her at the 2-lady tournaments hosted at Paradise Valley every year.  Her salads and desserts were delicious, some of us entered just for the food!    Karen and I had a great time planning the first "Icebreaker" tournament in 2022, she came up with the name.  We had been trying to come up with a name for a fun, get-acquainted early spring tournament and on a snowy day like today she called and said, "What about The Icebreaker?" and we had a good laugh but it was perfect.  She supplied a lot of the breakfast casseroles and the delicious desserts we have had at the Icebreaker tournament the last few years.

1/17/26:  Jan Simms had knee replacement surgery.  She's home now and doing well.  

12/26/25:  Mary Bendickson's mother has passed away early this morning.  Please keep Mary and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

12/14/25:  Bev Larsen informed us that her sister-in-law Louise DeGroot,  passed away.  Louise was a past member of the WGC who relocated to Green Bay, WI, to live with her daughter.  She suffered a stroke and then a series of falls this past year.  During recovery,  she developed pneumonia.  She passed away on December 10 after having been visited by many of her family.  She would have been 86 in January.  She will be laid to rest at St. Bernard's Mausoleum beside her late husband George. No service is planned at this time.

12/13/25:  Update from Ellen Shelley:  The loss of Dave has been incredibly difficult, and your thoughtful kind words, prayers, cards calls and messages have been a source of comfort. With all my heart, thank you. Ellen 

11/30/25:  Ellen Shelley's husband Dave passed away suddenly this past weekend.  Please keep Ellen and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

11/14/25:  Mary Henning visited with Patty Walker yesterday and she wants everyone to know that she had the neck surgery Tuesday, November 11 and the surgery was successful.  She thanks everyone for their support.  

11/10/25:  Linda Doty had knee replacement surgery today.  

11/8/25:  Anne Burgess had a laminectomy (disc) that was pressing on a nerve.  She is doing physical therapy and improving every day.

11/8/25:  For those of you who knew Susan Wyatt:  We just wanted to let you know that Susan has passed away.  There will be no services.  Many of us have fond memories of Susan and know she is relieved to finally be home with her loved ones who preceded her. Rest in peace Susan.  

9/28/25:  Arlene Alfred passed away yesterday.  She was a past WGC president and hall of fame recipient in 2017, as well as a member of the BV 9-Hole Golf League.  Sending warm throughts and prayers out for Arlene's family. Update:  A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary with a reception to follow in Becker Hall.  Link to obituary.

8/29/25:  Dolores Bowlin fell last week and fractured her right arm in 3 places.  She is blessed to have many family members in the area to take care of her.  Cards would be appreciated.

8/21/25:  Mary Bendickson fell and broke her wrist.  Sending warm wishes for a full and speedy recovery.  

7/6/25:  Becky Tipton's husband Tom is undergoing extensive treatments in Little Rock over the next few months.  Please keep Tom and Becky in your prayers.

5/18/25:  Ronnie Nelson came through her 2 day surgery on her back.  She is having a lot of pain and doesn't want visitors but cards would be appreciated.  Keep her in your prayers please.  

5/18/25:  Update:  Judy Lemoine's Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 6 from 2-4pm.  Click here for further details.

5/8/25:  It is with a heavy heart that I want to inform our members about the passing of our friend, Judy Lemoine, this morning 5/08/25. While she wasn't a member of WGC, many of you knew her.  She has been struggling for over a year now with respiratory issues and her lungs just gave out. She will keep the angels  in heaven busy with her stories.  She was a kind and caring person who loved everyone.  Our thoughts and prayers go out for her husband and her two boys and families.  She will be missed.

12/13/24:  Vicki Styles had knee surgery and is at home recovering. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery!

12/8/24:  Marylin Garris has suffered a mild stroke while in Texas.  Mary Riorden talked to her today and she is still in the hospital and doing fine.  She has no lingering affects from the stoke, and is going through a lot of rehab.  Her address in Texas for those who wish to send a card is 2107 Tanager Lan, Mason Tx 78572.  Please keep her in your prayers.

12/6/24:   Another one of our golf sisters has lost a child.  Marilyn Fabits' son, Steve, passed away this afternoon after a long illness.  Please keep her and the family in your prayers. Marilyn's address is  5 Tanyard Lane, BV, 72715

11/28/24 (Thanksgiving):  Karen Owens was rushed to the hospital in Little Rock last night after re-fracturing her hip. She will be having surgery this afternoon.  As you are giving thanks today for all the blessings that we have, please keep Karen in your prayers. Sending hugs and warm wishes for comfort and healing.  Update:  Karen had her surgery on the 28th and was released on the 30th.   She had extensive repair to her hip and femur, and will be unable to put much weight on her left leg for a couple months.  Rest easy Karen - golf and dancing can wait!

11/8/24:  Ray Horn has set up a Celebration of Life for Linda Horn from 1 to 3pm on the 16th of November at the United Lutheran Church on Cooper Road. Linda passed away late October after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.  Known as a golfer and quilter, Linda was very active with the Calico Cut Ups quilt guild in Bella Vista -- especially working with the Special Projects Small Group who donates quilts etc. for the various charities. 

11/7/24:  Sarah Huff recently had shoulder surgery.  Cards and prayers for a speedy recovery are welcomed. Get back into the swing of things soon Sarah!
