Tutor’s notes/Class handouts:

These can be cited in your text, although in most cases the information in these can be considered general knowledge, and if another work is cited in handouts, or tutor’s notes on Moodle, it is best to find the original source of the quotation yourself and cite and reference that instead.

Again, you only need to supply the author and date (in brackets), the title of communication within your text. e.g.

Author's or Speaker

Year of publication (in round brackets)

Title of communication (in italics)

[Medium]

Day/Month

How do you cite and reference from a lecture notes?

Example: In-text citation:

Points of interest from the lecture (Hedman, 2014)........

Reference for the above citation would read:

Hedman, B. (2014) Government and politics [Lecture for Access to Law]. 10 February.

Note:

In some cases it may not be appropriate for you to cite and reference lecture notes. Ask your teachers before cite to them in your assignment

If the lecture notes or handouts from other sources e.g. Newspaper, Journal and Book you have to cite and reference the original sources.
