A note from Principal Stewart to the teachers about these rankings:
I have been reflecting the past two weeks about the pressure we all receive about improving our data. You have felt the pressure from our data dives, and parent teacher conferences, from district emails and then I just added a little more from the US News and World Report. Data is important. It is evidence that we are improving.
However, the most important part of our jobs/careers are our students. Are they happy, enjoying school, seeing their own improvement, feeling connected, and looking forward to each school day? We are more about people than data.
I heard a story about a first grade student who when asked to draw a picture about something they loved and were grateful for; he drew a hand. This confused his teacher...what was he saying? She asked him about his drawing and he said this hand helps me everyday and he described all the help he received each day. The teacher asked whose hand it was? and he replied "It is your hand of course!" All of you have a hand that influences and assists the lives of our students. That is our main objective and goal. A goal that each of you achieve everyday. You make Westfield a Happy Place to learn.
