Take Home Reading
Take Home Reading
Take Home Reading is a wonderful PTA-sponsored program for students in kindergarten through second grade. Students' reading levels are assigned based on teacher assessments. If a parent would like their children to receive a different level of books, they should contact their student's teacher.
Each week students can return their bag on the first day of the week to the crate in their classroom. A new set of books will be sent home from school that same day. Occasionally the books may be sent home the next day. If a student needs more time on a set of books, please keep them until you feel they are ready to move on. But as a courtesy, we will send a reminder home if we have not seen books returned for 3 weeks in a row.
When is student completes a level, they will receive acknowledgment and a small treat. When they complete the program (usually during second grade), they will receive a certificate and full-size treat. We hope these diverse books and small victories will keep them excited about reading.
We understand that life is messy and sometimes books are damaged or misplaced. If this happens, we want your student to continue reading so please let us know and we can send a new bag of books home. If a book cannot be repaired or found we ask for $7 per book to cover the cost of replacement.
