What does it take to be on the West Field High School Mountain Bike Team?
At West Field, mountain biking isn’t just about crossing finish lines — it’s about building confident, capable young people who love to ride, explore, and grow together.
Our mission goes far beyond competition. We focus on youth development, community, and a lifelong love for the outdoors. Every rider, whether brand new or experienced, has a place on our team. We welcome students in grades 7–12 of all skill levels, and we measure success not by medals, but by moments of growth, teamwork, and perseverance.
We ride to challenge ourselves and to support one another. We ride to learn respect — for the trails, our teammates, and the communities we represent. We ride to give back, whether through trail service projects, volunteering, or simply encouraging others to get outside.
Through mountain biking, we promote healthy habits, positive mindsets, and lasting friendships. Our practices, events, and races are designed to help riders develop not only as athletes but as individuals — learning responsibility, resilience, and leadership along the way.
At West Field, we believe that being a Longhorn means more than just racing hard — it means riding with heart, representing our values of fun, respect, and community, and becoming the kind of person who makes the trail, and the team, better for everyone.
When you wear the West Field Longhorn jersey, you represent more than just yourself — you represent your teammates, your school, and a community that values respect, effort, and integrity.
Be the kind of rider people are proud to share the trail with. If you can treat others with kindness, ride responsibly, and be a positive teammate on and off the bike, then the West Field High School Mountain Bike Team is exactly where you belong.
Communications
All riders, parents, and coaches need to join the main West Field Team GroupMe to receive team announcements. Please limit all communication to information intended only for the entire team.
Once the regular season starts, Color Group leaders will form their own GroupMe threads for day-to-day communications within the smaller groups.
Mission:
The West Field High School Mountain Bike Team empowers student-athletes through mountain biking to build strong bodies, confident minds, and a supportive community. Our mission is to promote health, wellness, and lifelong fitness in a fun, inclusive environment where every rider is welcomed, challenged, and celebrated.
We are committed to upholding the core values of the Utah Cycling League and the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA)—fun, inclusivity, equity, respect, and community—by fostering leadership, resilience, and sportsmanship on and off the trail. Through service projects and local engagement, our team contributes meaningfully to our community while helping young athletes develop a deep appreciation for the outdoors and a lifelong love of cycling.
