The study consists of ten different sites that span an elevational gradient from near sea level to the crest of the Sierra Nevada. The sites were chosen for diversity of habitat, butterflies, accessibility, ability to be hiked in a day, and a low chance of major land changes. The high elevation sites are monitored during the snow free season, while lower elevation sites are monitored all year. Please explore the pages (links to the right of the map, below) for information on all of the sites plus photo collections for three of our mountain sites (Castle Peak, Donner Pass, and Lang). Each page contains photos of butterflies, flowers, and landscapes from each site.
