Castle peak is the highest elevation site on the transect, ranging from 2400 and 2775 meters. The route moves through coniferous forest, mountain meadows, and along the ridge between Castle and Basin peaks. This site is monitored through the summer. During the peak season (beginning on July) it is not uncommon for one survey to yield over 30 species.
