Participatory Videos for the International Peace Day 2021
Facilitation Process with Ataya Base Youth, and Ghetto Youth
Every year, September 21, is celebrated as International Day of Peace. To commemorate this day in a grand style this year, The West African Youth Network (WAYN), AGIAMONDO, Justice and Peace Commission (JPC-Caritas Freetown) joined a partnership to make a participatory video. Participants were selected from the East and Western part of Freetown and Tombo communities respectively.
They shot videos portraying what exactly happens in their communities in terms of conflicts, and proffer possible solutions to those problems in times of Corona; which in actual sense depict the theme for this year’s celebration.
The video emphasized the need for peace in every community or society and how to settle conflicts in case they arise.
The Videos were screened at the Tombo community and Adelaide Street Freetown where stakeholders, youths, fishermen/ women, and children came in their numbers to watch. The lessons learned were incredible.
From the videos, it was concluded that most of the conflicts that happen in their communities are a result of Misinformation and Lack of Good Leadership, which is what both videos were about.
As we reflect on the benefits of peace in any society, we encourage all to take the necessary actions to maintain the peace we are enjoying today.
