Fall Semester
Open to all instrumentalists and guard performers. Rehearsals during class period (1st period Woodwind & Brass, 2nd period Guard & Percussion), Monday and Wednesday evenings, and select Saturdays. Performances at football games, community events, and competitions throughout the state. Annual mandatory band camp takes place on campus prior to the start of the school year.
Spring Semester
Meets during the school day in the Spring. Play contemporary and traditional wind band literature. Wind Ensemble is an auditioned group for 10-12 and Symphonic Band is a non-auditioned group for 9-12. Auditions for Wind Ensemble take place at the end of the previous school year. Performances on campus as well as concert festivals. Instrumentalists in Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Indoor Percussion must be co-enrolled in Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band.
Meets during zero period both semesters. Swing, blues, Latin, funk, and more. Audition for acceptance and placement in Jazz I or Jazz II is required at the beginning of the school year. Performances on campus as well as jazz festivals. Must be co-enrolled with Marching Band and Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band.
Drumline and Front Ensemble perform as part of Marching Band during Fall semester and in Percussion Ensemble in the Spring. Percussion Ensemble members will also be assigned to play with Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band at concert and festival performances. Beginning in late November through Spring semester, all West Park instrumentalists may audition for Indoor Percussion, where co-enrollment in Marching Band and Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band/Percussion Ensemble is required.
Guard performs as part of Marching Band during Fall semester. Like Indoor Percussion, Indoor Guard begins in late November and continues through Spring semester. Audition required for acceptance and placement in JV or Varsity Indoor Guard. Prior dance experience recommended but not required.
