The Wesley Breastfeeding Education Volunteer Program gives medical students the opportunity to provide individualized prenatal breastfeeding education to the Wesley patient population. Breastfeeding is an incredibly important topic and provides unmatched health benefits to both the breastfeeding parent and baby. We aim to increase access to breastfeeding education with the goal of increasing breastfeeding rates and length after delivery.
Through this program, medical students are able to learn about breastfeeding and gain the skills required to counsel patients about all aspects of breastfeeding while providing guidance and support. This is a unique opportunity that gives medical students exposure to breastfeeding medicine, something that we don’t receive a lot of in medical school.
Volunteers will provide individual breastfeeding education to patients during the Wednesday OB/Peds Wesley CHIP nights using a series of presentations on various breastfeeding topics. They will be able see the patients throughout their pregnancies to provide continued support.
Please note: Attending an orientation is required before you can sign up to volunteer.
