An innovative, leading school district where communities provide cutting edge, collaborative and effective education.
"Libraries open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life."
The Waterville Media Center is a space used by staff and students PreK through 12 seeking information and digital tools to further learning. Visiting authors, college reps and local dignitaries share their expertise. After school programs provide a safe and comfortable space for homework and relaxation. Elementary teachers use the space as an alternative learning setting and individuals meet with the counselor or paraprofessionals for personalized assistance. Together we provide students with new experiences and chances to work and share ideas together.
Students create links between printed and digital text. They communicate face-to-face and via online networks. They acquire knowledge in one form and respond to it in another. When teachers look for effective instructional materials, they receive a mix of print and online information/sites. Materials for a unit about polar bears might include fiction and nonfiction books, WWF site for live polar bear tracking, and live polar bear cam at the SanDiego Zoo. Materials are used in both the media center and classrooms.
